The Design Process

After meeting a client over a coffee and an informal chat in my studio, I’ll compile a design proposal with fabric swatches and a quote.

The design concept is further developed and confirmed with a hand drawn illustration and the final quote reflecting the agreed design.

The Pattern cutting

After 22 body measurements have been taken, I’ll pattern cut your garments to your individual body shape and dimensions to ensure the perfect fit.

The first fitting will be a toile made in calico, that will not only ensure a perfect fit, but also confirm the visual styling. Lines of proportions are tweaked and honed to achieve the desired silhouette and styling.

All of this information will be transferred to the paper pattern.

The Tailoring

Subject to the complexity of the design and styling, the first fitting of the actual bridal wear would be the outer shell. This would allow for any finer adjustments and to also confirm the exact placement of embellishment.

It is at this stage that the overall look and styling will be finalised. Suggestions for accessories and any additional items are now also discussed and confirmed.

The Embellishment

Embellishment on bridal wear can include a wide range of detailing.

This could be in the form of sculpting the fabric into a dramatic three dimensional focal point, or the addition of a delicate, translucent, repurposed lace.

I use a range of techniques to create an exquisite finish that is reminiscent of old school couture and true labour of love.

Having my bridal gown designed and made by Wendy was honestly one of the best experiences
